The "Cultural Projects Management and Territorial Development" course trains students in cultural management, by providing them with the knowledge necessary to understand the local, national and international environment in which these professions operate today. It includes training in public, private, and associative cultural action, through direct acquisition of professional know-how. It aims to develop students’ understanding of public policies, of the functioning of associations while covering issues related to the social and solidarity economy. It considers the territorial dimension at all levels, local, national, and international. The fifth year tends to focus more on international cooperation.
This Master's course is offered in partnership with the Master "Engineering of Cultural and Intercultural Projects" of the University Bordeaux Montaigne and involves the intervention of many professionals.
The main objective of this Master's course is to provide students with a training program that combines academic and professional dimensions. Concerning the academic dimension, the Cultural Projects Management and Territorial Development course is based on Sciences Po Bordeaux's expertise in cultural policies, on its classes in general knowledge, law, economics, cultural history, sociology, and modern languages. As far as the professional dimension is concerned, cultural actors are involved in the training from the fourth year, their role in the training process becoming predominant in the fifth year. Throughout the fifth year, students will work directly in the field with professionals and cultural institutions in project design modules. Training in digital tools is also included in the program.
The students have two written project simulation exercises – based on the seminars - to prepare in the fourth and fifth year.
They will be required to make an oral presentation of a collective project design, developed in the fifth year between September and January. This will conclude the Sciences Po Bordeaux training course. The students will then go on to complete an internship and must report on this experience by writing a dissertation.
The specificity of this Master’s course lies in the fact that it approaches the development of cultural projects in their territorial dimensions (at local, national, or international levels) and in so doing considers employment opportunities at local, national, or international levels. This Master’s program is now well tested; it has been improved several times and adapted to societal evolutions. It provides training in cultural engineering, and also draws its strength from being part of an Institute of Political Studies located in a very attractive metropolis – Bordeaux - and in which general education is a core focus.
