Through this course, students will develop the critical skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the digital political era. They will explore how political actors and technology shape public opinion and gain a comprehensive understanding of disinformation’s societal impact. As digital technologies reshape the political landscape, the spread of disinformation poses significant challenges to democracies worldwide. Students will examine how disinformation is generated and disseminated, with a focus on recent sophisticated techniques—particularly those involving AI—used to manipulate political campaigns. They will also explore strategies for identifying and neutralizing false information. Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding of how AI is used both to generate and counter disinformation. Finally, the course will also introduce the intuition behind common AI algorithms and tools, while addressing the ethical, fairness, and transparency concerns associated with their use.
