This "International Cooperation and Development" course aims to give students the tools they need to understand and manage non-governmental development aid organizations, particularly in countries of the Global South.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to prepare students for managerial positions in  non-governmental organizations, international aid institutions or for careers as consultants in this sector. The course provides the theoretical knowledge necessary to design, facilitate or assess development or humanitarian emergency projects. To this end, students will explore, in the framework of geographical or thematic seminars, the environments (policies, actors, etc.) in which international cooperation projects are implemented, while familiarizing themselves with operational tools relating to project management, intercultural management, practices in the field of international cooperation, etc. in both the fields of development and humanitarian emergency aid.

These topics, studied by the researchers of the research centre "Les Afriques dans le monde", will be explored from a research perspective, in the framework of Specific seminars, but also by professionals of the sector (NGOs, local authorities, aid institutions, consultancy firms, etc.).

Furthermore, the International Cooperation and Development course also includes a pedagogical exercise in which the students will be placed in simulated situations of project expertise, based on concrete cases proposed by professionals in the cooperation sector (organisational diagnosis, support for the design of steering tools, post-project assessment, etc.).
