Presentation

This class is intended to draw students' attention to the importance of sub-national levels of government. Local and regional governments play a significant role both in public policymaking and in societal integration. Their influence has increased significantly with the decentralization/regionalization/federalization reforms, but also with the European construction and recent economic transformations. This class presents the theories that have sought to explain the relations between center and peripheries and the contribution of local and regional governments to public policies. We will also discuss the many waves of reform that have greatly modified the organization and powers of local and regional governments.

Form of assessment

The number of ECTS credits and the assessment methods are likely to be different for students in credit exchange programmes.
