LVB – German

Presentation

Various topics are discussed, related alternately to issues specific to German-speaking countries and to questions specific to the students’ Master's courses.   German-language publications are used in order to extend the students’ vocabulary to terms related to their fields of specialization. In the advanced-level classes, we also study literary and philosophical texts in order to help the students broaden their lexical range and grasp how poetic power can be achieved when using a foreign language.

Recommended Prerequisite(s)

Good command of basic linguistic components (verb conjugation, noun-adjective and subject-verb agreements, syntax, linking words); good command of basic vocabulary to be able to discuss societal issues and understand general texts in fields relating to political, economic and social questions, and be able to express and support a personal opinion.

Educational formula

Method conferences are based on the active participation of students. Topics are usually introduced in the form of thematic projects to be prepared at home (to be read, listened to, viewed). Topics are examined in various ways, with priority given to working groups with different tasks and role-playing. Students make one oral presentation per year (they are grouped according to their Masters’ specialization) on a theme of their choice related to their Masters’ specialization.
