The objective of the fourth year English method conference is two-fold: to strengthen and deepen knowledge and understanding of the English-speaking world (UK, USA, Commonwealth) and to develop and refine language skills (written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression).

The main objective is to give students the tools to develop a critical cross-cultural approach while consolidating their theoretical knowledge. Various types of materials are used (texts, audio-visual documents, iconographic documents, theoretical writings...), all related to current events. Emphasis is also placed on English/American- style methodology, particularly for written exercises such as essay writing.

Recommended Prerequisite(s)

A good command of the basic linguistic components: verbal structures (conjugation, forms, modal verbs, tenses, etc.), the nominal group (articles, adjectives, pronouns, etc.), syntax (simple sentence and complex sentence). Adequate knowledge of the Anglo-Saxon world (acquired, in particular, in the previous years).

Educational formula

The English method conferences are both content classes that focus on general knowledge topics related to Anglo-Saxon countries and seminars based on the active participation of students.

The themes are generally presented orally in various forms:  short presentations, debates, press reviews, detailed presentations of an issue, role-playing, etc. Following presentations and discussions with the group, the topics can be presented in writing in the form of short reports.

Preparation (individually and/or in groups) prior to the class is essential. Efforts to address possible deficiencies (knowledge and language) are part of students’ individual work.
